Glare on computer screens can be a problem in classrooms and offices.
Parabolic Louvers direct light
downwards and reduce glare.
Reduction of glare is a key consideration. With computers do not use standard lensed fixtures, use parabolic louvers or egg-crate louvers. Indirect lighting combined with task lighting is also an effective option.
T-12 on magnetic ballasts should be changed to T8 on electronic ballasts for 30%-45% reduction in energy. SP41 is a standard but SP35 is also common. Note that color of lamp has nothing to do with glare which is determined by fixture optics and intensity and direction of light, not color of light.
Standard lensed fixtures can be fine in many office and classroom situations but not if computers are being used.
Dimming systems and controls are becoming popular.
Major Retrofit Opportunities:
- T12 on magnetic ballasts to T8 on electronic ballasts
- Consider F32T8/UMX and UltraMAX ballast for a complete retrofit.
- Consider 30W T8WM lamps if standard T8's are already being used.
- Consider higher CRI and higher output (SPX, HL) lamps in T8.
- Dimming controls and motion sensors should be considered
