| Lumen Maintenance | As lamps age their light output goes down. |
|
|
All light sources decrease in output as they
age. Depending on whether you are an optimist or a pessimist, you call this
lumen maintenance or
lumen depreciation.
When lighting designers design lighting, they consider the mean lumens of the lamp rather than the initial lumen number. They are concerned not simply with the initial light level but also with how the light levels are maintained over time Much technological effort goes toward improving lumen maintenance. Fluorescent, Halogen and High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps have very good lumen maintenance. GE usually specifies both INITIAL and MEAN lumens for lamps. |
