Lighting Systems need and benefit from regular maintenance. Periodic cleaning of fixtures and planned relamping of lamps (also called group relamping) can provide great benefits in terms of things like: higher light levels, better color uniformity and reduced maintenance costs.

To get the best value out of lamps, it works to not wait to end of life, but to change them out at 2/3rds of average rated life. At this time it also makes sense to clean the fixtures. A thin film of dust can absorb 10% to 15% of the light without anyone realizing it.
