Parabolic aluminized reflector, or PAR, and multifaceted reflector, or MR lamp shapes are the most common halogen lamp shapes. PAR lamps are often called lamps within lamps. A small halogen lamp is mounted and sealed inside a PAR bulb. Lamps in the Halogen A-Line series use a TB bulb. The unique shape and size of the TB bulb make these lamps the ideal choice to replace standard incandescent household bulbs. Tubular, or T shape bulbs, may be single- or double-ended. These bulbs are used in a number of quartz halogen lamps. MR lamps are very popular in retail display and "low voltage track
lighting." They are available in two sizes: the MR-11, with a diameter
of 1 3/8, and the MR-16, with a diameter of 2. Rated at 12 volts, the
lamps require a transformer to reduce the 120 volt line to 12 volts. |
