GE's HIR lamps save energy over standard halogen lamps but they also cost more. Customers want to know: "is it worth it?" Here is how you calculate energy savings:

(1) (Watts saved) x (burning hours per year) = watt-hours saved.

(2) Divide this by 1000 to get kiloWatt-hours saved per year.

(3) Multiply this by the energy rate ($ per kWh) to get $ saved per year.

If you use . . . You will get . . .
Lamp watts and burning hours per year Energy $ saved per socket per year
Total watts at site and burning hours per year Energy $ saved per year over entire site
Lamp watts and life of lamp (in hours) Energy $ saved over life of the lamp

You can also use the Simple Energy Estimator (discussed later in the "Tools" module) to carry out this calculation.
