The gas is excited by radio frequency (RF) and emits UV which excites the phosphor just like a regular fluorescent lamp.

Because there are no electrodes to wear out the Genura™ is the longest lasting Compact Fluorescent Lamp on the market—15,000 hours . It is available in a 23 watt flood which has the same light output as an incandescent reflector bulb of 75 to 100 watts.
