Metal Halide Lamps (GE brand name Multi-Vapor®) were invented in the 1960's by GE researchers. They provide long life, white light with good color rendering, high efficiency and compact size.

Typical uses include stadiums, parking lots, gas station canopies, billboards, industrial high-bay, etc..

They are available in clear or diffuse coated bulbs. The Universal product can be burned in any orientation but the HOR and Vertical Base-up are optimized for those burning positions and produce higher lumens.

Low wattage metal halide lamps (20, 32, 70, 100 and 150 W) operate on an ignitor ballast. Recent product lines like PulseArc™ and Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH™) also require an ignitor ballast.
