MVR400/U is the most common metal halide lamp on the market. At 10 cents per kWh, an MVR 400/U will use $930 in electrical energy over its lifetime. Here are some retrofit products that will provide better value for the money spent on electricity:

MVR360/WM/STB: (Watt-Miser® Staybright®) Provides more mean lumens (than MVR400/U), same life, reduces energy consumption by 10% (i.e. $93 savings over lamp life)
MVR400/VBU/STB/HO (Staybright® High Output) Provides 30% more mean lumens at the same energy cost in vertical base-up applications..
MVR400/HOR/MOG (Horizontal High Output) Provides 15% higher initial lumens and 33% longer life in horizontal applications, does not require a special socket.
MVR400/SP30/U Provides warm color (3000 Kelvin)

With a ballast change, MVR400/VBU/HO/PA (PulseArc™) and CMH400 (CMH™ ceramic metal halide) become available for use in the same fixture. Benefits of these are discussed later.
