GE's UltraStart™ ballasts are designed for applications during which lamps are turned on and off frequently, such as restrooms, storage areas, classrooms, and offices. This frequent switching can drastically reduce lamps life, both on Instant Start and standard rapid Start ballasts. However UltraStart™ ballasts are specifically designed to extend—even double or triple lamp life—in such applications. In addition, they are ideal for use with occupancy sensors.

GE UltraStart™ ballasts have the following improvements over standard programmed start ballasts

(1) They are very effcient, approaching UltraMAX in efficiency
(2) They start lamps significantly faster (<0.7 seconds) than standard programmed start ballasts.
(3) They are offered in 3 different ballast factors: High, Normal and Xtra Low (XL = 0.60 BF), the XL being used for increased savings in situations where a slight reduction in light level can be tolerated.
